What is RiseCore LIFT?

Hope for the hard days. If you or someone you love is hurting, real people are ready to listen, any hour, free and private.

THE MOVEMENT

RiseCore Nation is three movements working as one. Every person who gives, lifts or walks with someone is part of it.

  2. 2LIFTHope.
  3. 3HUBRecovery.

You're in Movement 2: LIFT. Reach out, and nobody walks alone in a dark hour.

Keep moving.
The light is ahead. One step at a time. You're not walking it by yourself.

If you're the one hurting

Feelings this heavy can pass, even when it doesn't feel like they will. For right now:

  1. 1Get through the next hour. Not the next year. Just this hour.
  2. 2Tell one person. A friend, a family member, a pastor, or 988. Say it out loud.
  3. 3Make your space safer. Put distance between you and anything you could use to hurt yourself. Ask someone to hold onto it.
  4. 4Don't be alone tonight. Go where people are, or ask someone to come to you.

How to be a buddy

You don't need special training to help. You just need to show up.

  1. 1Ask. Straight out: "Are you thinking about suicide?" Asking won't put the idea in their head. It opens the door.
  2. 2Listen. Don't fix, don't judge. Let them talk.
  3. 3Keep them safe. Stay with them. Help put distance between them and anything they could use to hurt themselves.
  4. 4Connect. Call or text 988 together. Sit with them while they do.
  5. 5Follow up. Check in tomorrow, and the day after. That text matters more than you know.

What to say, and what not to

Say"I'm glad you told me."
"You matter to me."
"I'm not going anywhere."
"Let's call 988 together."
Avoid"Others have it worse."
"Just think positive."
"You'd never do that."
Promising to keep it a secret.

Signs a buddy may be hurting

  1. •Talking about wanting to die, or feeling like a burden
  2. •Feeling hopeless or trapped
  3. •Pulling away from friends and family
  4. •Drinking or using more
  5. •Giving things away, or saying goodbye

Lift a buddy today

Not sure how to start? Copy one of these and send it.

"Been thinking about you. How are you really doing?"
"Want to grab coffee this week? My treat."
"No need to reply. Just wanted you to know I'm here."

After a loss

If you've lost someone to suicide, the grief is real and it's heavy, and none of it is your fault. You don't have to carry it alone either. Call or text 988 any time, and look for a loss survivors group near you through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
